Meet the Team

Roger Powell Jr.

Executive Director

A product of Joliet West High School and a native of Joliet, Ill., Roger Powell Jr. dealt with a rough upbringing growing up in a violent neighborhood. Powell struggled academically, even getting kicked out of multiple schools at a young age. But Powell flipped the script and is now a father of 4 to Bria, Liam, Gabriel, and Faith along with his wife Tara. Powell currently serves as the Men’s Basketball Coach at Valparaiso University after a long illustrious career as an assistant coach at Gonzaga, Vanderbilt, and Valparaiso. Powell was also a three-year starter for the University of Illinois back in his playing days, earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten recognition in each of his final two seasons. His winning track record dates as far back as his days playing for the Illini, when he helped the team to three Big Ten regular-season titles, two Big Ten Tournament crowns and three Sweet Sixteen berths.

So how is this possible? How does a young kid from a rough neighborhood grow into a head coach, ordained minister, motivational speaker, husband and father of 4? Powell dedicated his life to Christ. After tapping into the Lord’s calling for his life, Powell founded RPJ Ministries Organization after his college career, which mentored and trained young leaders to be Godly examples on their sports team and school campuses. He also founded Integrity Sports Corporation, a company focused on building basketball skills and integrity of high school and junior high athletes. This calling is seen today through the founding of Rev’s Foundation, investing in kids turning them into leaders of their generation much like Powell. Powell’s life is a prime example of what can happen when you dedicate your life to Christ and Powell wants to share that process with as many individuals as he can. There are so many extraordinary moments waiting for those who do!
